The summer of my freshman year of college, I spent a lot of time at the beach. Each time I stayed for the sunset, and watching the light dance on the waves and the sand, made me inspired to paint this. I wanted the painting to be colorful, and motivating as I went into the next chapter of my life.

A place that my mother dragged my family to annually, I learned to love the place. For choosing a painting idea, I went in with the intention of making a landscape, involving flowers and scenery.

The Christmas season is the most important time of the year in my family. In our living room, there is a fireplace with a mantle above it, stringed with a lit-up garden and stocking during Christmas. Over the years, I have always found this particular place magical, and intriguing to see how the light interacts with its surroundings.
Ode to a Boy

Going into this painting, I wanted to make it personal to him and me. I wrote a letter to him, in which I then highlighted phrases I thought were beautiful or poetic. To put the phrases and words on the painting, I used stamps covered in oil paint.
Summer Nights

In the summer, I eat cherries constantly, dreaming about long summer nights and quiet moments. The constellations around the edges are the Summer Constellations. The choice to add the mist and the stars was to achieve a magical feel to the painting.
What Will I Be When I Grow Up?

As I made this piece my first semester at art school, I was feeling sentimental around the passage of time. Since I was away from home, I asked my mom to send me pictures of paintings I did as a child. From there, I picked the paintings that I believed showed the most variety. A little version of me is standing closer to the painting, admiring their her artwork. The recent, older, depiction of me is also admiring her artwork, but standing back to admire her as well.
